Naked Cakes ?

Well that’s what happens when you don’t check your list of ingredients before you start baking. I thought I had enough confectioner’s sugar to make the butter cream frosting but turns out that I did not. However I discovered this juicy tidbit only after I had baked oh about 62 mini chocolate cupcakes 🙂

Yes, yes I have 62 of these beauties sitting in my kitchen waiting to be eaten. Maybe the gods were trying to say hey we like your waist line so we are helping you keep it like that? Needless to say my son was not too happy about the lack of frosting.

Still don’t believe me that I have all these cakes sitting at home

All that aside I did try the One Bowl Chocolate Cupcakes from Martha Stewar’s Book “Cupcakes” verdict – it was ok, could have been a little more moist but I will be trying this again and maybe tweaking the receipe because the recipe is a dream to make in the fact that its fast and simple, even my hubby was surprised at the how quickly these were in the oven.

The two men in the household have already eyed future cupcakes to I’ll be back to my baking adventures next week , in the meantime anyone want a cupcake ?

What’s for dinner ?

Finally the weekend 🙂 and as most Saturday’s go I do the menu for the week and then hubby goes to the farmer’s market. Saturday mornings usually find me on my favorite food sites hunting down recipes to try.  I seem to have become known in my office well really one colleague for having Sunday “fancy” meals but we do usually take the time to have something nice(er) on a Sunday.

Cooking plans for this weekend a new receipe and then baking some cupcakes on Sunday  I just received Martha’s Cupcakes in the mail so can’t wait to try the recipes, I’ll let the men of the house decide I think.

Here’s is this week’s menu (if anything by posting I’ll have a record of what we ate)

Saturday
Entrecôte (Prime Rib) with Rosti Potatoes with a red, not sure as yet depends on what the hubby brings back 🙂

Sunday
Pappardelle with veal ragu not sure what wine we’ll have as yet but will let you know

Monday
Fish/ Couscous – waiting for hubby to come back from the market to let me know what fish we are having (love surprises)

Tuesday
So very original but Tuna sandwiches and Salad

Wednesday
Tuscan white bean soup

Thursday
Leek Mac and Cheese

Friday
Homemade Pizzas

Just realized that I’m trying out a few recipes this week but they seem rather easy so we’ll see how they go.

Welcome

And after much reflection and emails going back and forth Wheels and Lollipops was born in the very early hours of the morning. Oddly enough there is nothing extremely clever to the name just two things that my son loves. Wheel is his word for M&;Ms and Lollipops especially chocolate ones are something that he is  currently fascinated by.

So it seemed like the perfect title for this new adventure. I hope that you will stick around to see my exploits in the kitchen and hopefully some of the projects take on wings of their own. Funnily enough I’m typing this while eating Cadbury’s fruit and nut chocolate (brought back from Ireland) and a very good expresso (Nespresso to be exact) so it would seem we are off to a good start.
